Privacy Policy for Hjemmeboka
Last updated: 27 August 2026
Hjemmeboka ("the app", "we") is an app for documenting your home's contents, for your own overview and for insurance claims. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it is used.
What information we collect
Contact information
- Email address, used to create and log in to your account (via our authentication provider, Clerk).
Content you enter
- Photos you take of items and receipts/warranty documents.
- Other content you register: item names, category, purchase date, purchase price, current value, serial number, warranty date and notes, as well as room and home names.
Identifiers
- An internal user ID linked to your account.
- A device ID (push token) used to send you notifications, e.g. when a report is ready or a warranty is about to expire.
Diagnostics and usage statistics
- Crash reports and performance data, collected automatically via Sentry to find and fix bugs in the app.
- General usage statistics (e.g. app sessions and device type), collected automatically via Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand how the app is used. Collection of advertising ID is turned off.
How we use the information
All the information above is used solely to operate the app's features:
- Authentication and sign-in.
- Storing and displaying your home inventory.
- Generating insurance reports (PDF) with an overview of your items.
- Notifications about warranties approaching expiry, and when a report is ready.
- AI-based recognition of items from photos you choose to scan (see separate section below).
- Troubleshooting and improving the app's stability and performance (diagnostic data).
We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell or share your information with others for marketing purposes. We do not track your activity across other apps or websites.
AI-based item recognition
If you use "Scan with AI" to add items automatically, the photo you take is sent to Google's AI model (Gemini), via the Vercel AI Gateway, which analyzes the image and suggests a name, category and room for the items in the photo.
The photo is not stored by us — it is used only for this single analysis and is never written to our database or file storage. We cannot guarantee how long Google or Vercel themselves retain image data in their own systems during the processing itself; this is governed by their own terms. This processing involves transferring image content to a provider outside the EU/EEA — see "Transfer of information outside the EU/EEA" below.
You can always add items manually instead, without using AI scanning.
Sharing of content
If you invite others to join a home in the app, they will be able to see the items, photos and reports linked to that home. This sharing only happens with people you invite yourself — not publicly, and not with strangers.
Service providers
We use the following third-party services to run the app. They process information on our behalf, in line with this policy:
- Clerk — authentication and account management.
- Neon — database (EU region).
- Vercel Blob — storage of photos, documents and reports (private storage with time-limited, signed access).
- Vercel AI Gateway and Google (Gemini) — analysis of photos for AI-based item recognition. The photo is not stored by us, only sent for analysis.
- Inngest — runs background jobs such as warranty notifications, report generation and account deletion.
- Sentry — error reporting and performance monitoring.
- Firebase (Google) — usage statistics (analytics) for the app.
- Expo/Apple/Google — push notifications and (for Premium) handling of subscription purchases.
Transfer of information outside the EU/EEA
Some of the providers above — Clerk, Sentry, Vercel AI Gateway/Google Gemini and Firebase — may process information from servers outside the EU/EEA, including in the US. Our own database (Neon) and file storage (Vercel Blob) are set up in the EU region. Where data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, this is done in accordance with applicable data protection law, normally based on the EU's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) in the provider's data processing agreement.
Storage and deletion
Your data is stored for as long as your account or home is active.
You can delete your account at any time directly in the Hjemmeboka app (Settings → Account → Delete account). This permanently deletes your account and the home's associated data (rooms, items, photos, receipts and reports).
You can also delete individual items, rooms or photos directly in the app without deleting the whole account.
Deleted content is kept for up to 30 days (so it can be recovered in case of accidents) before it is permanently removed, including associated photos and documents stored with Vercel Blob.
You can also request deletion by contacting us at support@hjemmeboka.no.
Your rights
If you live in the EU/EEA, you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, in accordance with the GDPR. Contact us at support@hjemmeboka.no to exercise these rights.
You also have the right to receive a copy of your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format (data portability), in line with GDPR Article 20. To request this, send an email to support@hjemmeboka.no with your request. We will respond without undue delay, and no later than within one month.
You can also request that the processing of your data be restricted, or object to processing based on legitimate interest. If you believe we are processing your data in violation of the regulations, you have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy as needed. Significant changes will be communicated in the app.
